Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo – Original Formula

Please excuse the dirty-looking coffee mug in the cover photo. I didn’t notice it was there until right before I published this.

I’m already on my third bottle of the Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo – Original Formula and I realized I haven’t talked about it yet when it’s such a great product for anti-dandruff.

The first time I used the shampoo was in 2006 when I spent Christmas in the US. My scalp flaked and I would see them fall when I just lightly scratch my head. The only flakes I wanted to see were snowflakes, not dandruff! But I guess it was inevitable because of the cold weather and my warm showers.

When I showed my mom the flaking, she urged that we go to Target right away. She showed me the Neutrogena shampoo, which was the most affordable among those available then. I guess she forgot she introduced it to me. When my dad recently had the same problem and I suggested the shampoo to her, she asked if it was good. LOL!

This was my second bottle actually. 😛

Active ingredients
Coal Tar 0.5% (2% Neutar® Solubilized Coal Tar Extract) (Anti-dandruff, Anti-seborrheic dermatitis, Anti-psoriasis)

Inactive ingredients
Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Laureth-4, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Polysorbate 20, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, DMDM Hydantoin, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA.

Anyway, I was dandruff free for years after I finished that bottle. Then two years ago, I suffered itchy scalp and I would sometimes get very dry patches along the hairline. I had ointment for the dry patches, but I needed a shampoo for the dandruff. I wasn’t really searching yet when I came across the huge 16fl oz bottle of it in SM Makati supermaket (at their imported shampoo aisle). It costs PhP995. Expensive, but worth it because it works fast as it claims. From Neutrogena’s website

Our gentle dandruff shampoo starts to work on contact, so it controls itchy and flaky scalp conditions from the first use. And the shampoo continues to work for hours even after it’s rinsed off. Recommended by dermatologists to effectively control chronic Scalp Psoriasis, Seborrheic Dermatitis and even common Dandruff.

The Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo contains 0.5% Coal Tar. Tbh, I haven’t researched thoroughly for the benefits of coal tar, but it is for anti-dandruff, anti-seborrheic dermatitis, and anti-psoriasis. It works for me, so I’m already good with it. LOL! I find the shampoo is gentle unlike Selsun Blue, which is what I used many years ago, that really stings when it gets to the eyes.

I got another bottle of it since I already emptied that (in the photo), but I do need to know where I can get this locally since I’m still uncertain if SM sells this regularly. This must be a staple in my shower because my hair and scalp gets oily and flaky when I use any shampoo for consecutive days. There’s a shampoo that does work for me, but my wallet isn’t too happy with it. 😛

You should consider the Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo if you have symptoms of dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis. As mentioned previously, I found mine at SM Makati Supermarket. I’ll update should I find this elsewhere.
